TC vs Small 5th wheel
In researching smaller rv's the TC's TT's and short 5th wheels seem to have some advantages over larger RV's. Having never owned any of these, what I have surmised from this forum is if you want a TC ...

TC can be cheap. The 1st one I bought cost me $4500. Sure it was TLC and had to drive long way to get it, but having flatbed at the time, I used nylon straps to hold it.
No other expenses.
Than when I bought dually, I run a piece of aluminium tubing across the frame for front tie-downs and chains at rear bumper to hold it.
Camper come with Fastguns.
It took new truck when I went into higher pricing and spend $350 for tie-downs.
Obviously cheap TC is not for everybody and you need to know how to deal with small repairs, but tents would require driving around to find toilet, or shower, paying for hotel room from time to time, than dining out. Not necessary cheaper.
