Two weeks ago I replaced the water heater in my father's home. I asked if he bothered to drain,flush....as recommended by the manufacture.
He told me when he bought his 1st home, he needed to replace the water heater. Trying to be a responsible home owner, he followed the maintenance schedule recommended in the literature....water heater last roughly 10 years.
Every water heater since that 1st one.....he doesn't even think about the heater, until the hot water stops. They have ALL lasted roughly 10 years.
I don't give the water heater in the B&M a second thought. Yet, I flush/inspect the water heater in the TT on a yearly basis.
Did you or your father replace the anode rods on a regular basis?
He claims he did in his youth with the 1st one he had to buy. Since it didn't last any longer than what other's told him was the norm, he did not do it with subsequent heaters. Tells me they have ALL lasted roughly the same time... was not worth the effort to include in the maintenance schedule.
Not sure if tank failure was the death of them all, or if other things like burners were involved. I just know he said you get about the same amount of years from one you don't do shedule maintenance on, as one you do flush.
Not a researched conclusion, just his opinion based on years of experience in homes he owned, and at his work. (he worked maintenance for a university 30+ years).
Yet if you ask....he always inspected, flushed, etc.... the water heater on all TT he has owned :h
