Texas TT inspection

We just moved to Vernon, TX from Colorado and need to get our TT inspected so we can register it here. Anyone here from this area and know where to get it inspected and what will be involved? TIA
  • Do get/save the inspection report from the shop, especially if you are going to get/renew license right away. It is supposed to be an overnight update to the state database that counties rely on to confirm inspection when issuing registration, but sometimes doesn't update so quickly. I showed copy of report when I renewed at tax office, else they would have sent me out empty-handed that day.
  • Go to the inspection station locator web site and put in your zip code. Apparently not all stations have a trailer endorsment (noted as TL on the web site). Find a nearby station and call ahead to make sure.

On my 5er they did not even move it. Just checked the lights, turn signals, tires, and looked to see that I had a breakaway switch/cable. 15 minutes and $7. Took about as long to do the paper work as the inspection.

It's just a safety inspection. So they'll check lights, signals, brakes, tires, etc. If it's a road worthy trailer then it should pass just fine. You pay a $7 at the station for their part. You pay the state part ($7.50) when registering.
  • Click here Scroll down to "more information" and you'll see a blue link "annual safety inspection." Click on it.

On the page it takes you to, on the left is a menu system. Hold your mouse over "Consumer Information" and another menu appears, hold mouse over "inspection information" and select "inspection station locator. Type in your zip code and you'll see almost a dozen of them. Out of which maybe 6 or 7 have the "TL" code indicating they do trailers. Choose one of them.
  • Same place you get your truck inspected, there should be several of them in Vernon. I went to Jiffy lube in Temple because they had a large parking area but there lots of places to choose from.
