I've been a member of the TC Forum since 2004. Every year since I joined, there's yet more posts with questions about carrying firearms from the US to Canada. Every year, this kind of post takes on a life of it's own, people get out the popcorn, and all sorts of armchair or otherwise experts expound on how to do it, how not to do it, and why.The latest post was no exception and it too morphed into the best firearm to protect one's self from bears. I think that was why it got closed....because it drifted off down yet another rabbit hole.Thanks to the moderators for closing it. I appreciate your efforts.

It was valuable information for us as we plan to go to Alaska through Canada and were considering the various options about our firearms. I appreciate those who responded with their experiences and suggestions where to store.

Geewizard - Thanks for the post of support and understanding. That makes moderating worth the effort.I too think it has had valuable information, until it wandered off topic. About "repeating" topics that appear over and over? It's kind of like our kids? Tell them all you want about the dangers and hazards of life, and still ignore you. It isn't until they experience it themselves they truly understand what you've been saying.Same is kid of true with each new "generation" that pops up on these forums. They've simply got to ask the questions themselves! Even if it's the same repeat over and over.

To be fair, time and situations do change. We hope people use the search feature to get at least the basics, then ask questions to confirm their understanding or ask if there has been changes. When it comes to the many laws, they can and do change often. The only problem I see is when people slide off topic. Unfortunately gun related topics usually go bad within 2 or 3 pages.Wayne

I joined the same year as GeeWizard. We have seen the 'gun', or the 'Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge' , or ' Diesel vs. Gas', or 'popup vs. hardside' topics come and go in many guises. As an antidote to these, when I see a polarizing, hot button topic in the title, I simply move on to more important stuff. This is the same tactic I use when I see obvious 'loaded' topics or spamers: simply ignore and it will go away. Thank God we still have Red to weed out the very few offenders.

It was never much of a topic to begin with. People take things said on the internet WAY too serious.

If it devolved into name calling and the like, it should be closed. If it is bunch of people beating a dead horse, who cares? I see no reason to shut down conversations just because other people have no interest in what is being said. If it was entertaining or engaging to the people participating, why should it be closed? Its not like the bits and bytes being posted are costing anyone any money.
