Moth balls and dryer sheets work great.

Yeah, well, when the rodents start bowling with those mothballs and make a nice fresh nest with the dryer sheets, you can try any of the other repellents like peppermint juice or coyote urine. I haven't found anything that keeps them out of finding a warm place for Winter except a cat or a trap.
