Seems as though the inner "O" ring is pooched. Perfect timing for a failure.

I have one on order and will replace it in the spring.

Of course it's pooched as you did this with the system under full pressure. :S Trick is to turn the pump off, relieve some of the pressure by opening a faucet for a few seconds, then push in the check valve stem.

That'll learn ya. :W
