I always find it interesting that some people don't want to see this subject discussed. References to it being a dead horse, etc.
It's also interesting that some might consider the subject to be "put to rest".
My take on it is this: it's a dynamic subject that changes slowly, but constantly. It could very well be fair to say that some brands of ST tires are getting better as time passes and products evolve. For instance, some ST tires are now being sold with higher speed ratings. Others are still limited to 65 or even 62 mph.
Honest, open minded folks should be able to keep the discussion open and on the table.
It could be that part of the decision process we each make regarding whether use ST vs LT is based on the notion of, is the tire "good enough, with adequate reserve", or do we want something that is "built to a higher standard with a higher reserve".
We each get to make our own decisions about what we feel works for us, and what price point we want to adhere to.
Let the discussion continue. If a person really feels it's a dead horse subject, why not just skip over these threads ?
....carry on, men.....
I am certainly a person who values discussion, debate and even disagreement. But it is much better for all concerned when the opinions expressed are based on fact instead of fiction, myth and ignorance.
This is the issue here. There are tons of reliable sources of information out there Written by people who have made their careers in analyzing, following and critiquing the tire industry. In addition there are journals full of scientific/engineering articles available both in the Tire industry press and by the government. But this all seems to be ignored.
In this entire thread (or any other on this subject I have read) has anyone of the "China Bomb" believers ever once posted a single article, chart or reference that supports their point.
Dead horse or not, settled or not, letting light and air into a dark room (this debate) can only help.
