Who says LT won't fit under the rig ? My little camper has a "very limited" amount of room under the rig.....and yet I was still able to fit a "commercial LT" tire under it.
And in doing so, I was also able to go up one load range, thereby increasing my load capacity by 120 pounds per tire.
Those who say that they can't fit better quality tires because they won't fit, have simply not done enough research and shopping.
EDIT: for what's it's worth, most of the more logical discussion here in support of LT, centers not on "china-based" production, but more on the relevant testing standards and overall quality of ST vs LT
