I don't know where anyone would get that the RAM gets 12 mpg. It got 8.5 mpg pulling a 19,000# trailer (~28,000# GCW) up and down mountain grades in the last test. For the record, the Ford diesel got 9.1 mpg for the same test.
What I'm saying is "who knows what the mpg would be on a 2013 3500 CC/LB/4X4 Dually Ram truck??? They haven't hit the dealerships yet....I don't know of too many who have returned cars or trucks to a dealership after owning them LONG ENOUGH to see what kind of mpg they're getting, THEN take them back to said dealership and say, "I don't want this vehicle, it doesn't get the mpg I "THOUGHT" it would", don't think that would be a very good reason to return a vehicle to a dealership....if it were, there would be a LOT of vehicles returned for not getting the mpg the window sticker showed it would get....and on our diesel trucks, at this time, mpg is not given....
Was the Ford a 2013 with DEF? If so, then .6 mpg difference to me isn't a deal breaker..the 2012 Ram they tested didn't have DEF and only .6 mpg difference when towing??? Then I would expect the 2013 to get a little better mpg, but how much????? Where in the world did the # 12 come from ???? I get that much easily with my dually now, don't know about towing yet, but will come Thursday...first time towing with the 12'
