Okay new guy question :B is there something wrong with the fuel/DEF fillers caps?
They look pretty tight to me from the photos. I've rented a few of cars at the airport that had the "cap-less" type fillers which seemed to work fine :R
DEF running down your paint job don't sound to good. Maybe that dreaded awful GM design is better :W
There's no known issues with the capless diesel fuel fill port and the DEF port uses a traditional screw on cap.
The concern is how well the capless port will prevent external contamination from getting into the diesel tank (i.e. high pressure water spray at the car wash could bypass the rubber seal and get water in the fuel tank or while filling the DEF tank accidently spill DEF into the fuel tank). Some people always find a way to screw things up. :S
BTW.... Having to open the hood to fill the DEF tank is not my idea of a better design, but for some it's probably a good thing.
