On our new TT (see sig), the freshwater tank is located between the wheels, with the (plastic) drain just in front of the rear axle. To access it, we have to crawl under the camper and use a wrench to undo (or reinstall) the drain cap, which screws on. We're thinking we may need to do some kind of mod in order to make it easier to drain and fill the tank - perhaps a short hose attached to the existing drain, going to a valve somewhere closer to the edge of the camper. Has anyone done anything like this? If so, how did it work?

I don't have a pic of it, but mine was the same way. I have a lot leftover sprinkler parts and found a threaded elbow that fit the drain on the bottom of the tank. Then I added a short piece of pipe and added a ball valve to the end. I am now able to reach between the tires and give it a twist to drain it. I've had it in place for over 10 years and no leaks! :)Mitch

Assuming a dump station is available, I've drained my FW tank by just running the water through the pump until it goes dry. The pump is a diaphragm model and won't burn out if run dry for a brief time. This also helps with rinsing out the waste tanks.

Take the cap to your local hardware store. Purchase the correct size ell, nipple, and valve.

I just did this exact same thing this weekend... my drain had a small ball valve with a plain male end... I had a section of PEX , cut it and placed a 90 degree fitting on it... my PEX runs to the edge of the camper with a new PEX inline ball valve installed on the end... NOW the old ball valve is kept open , and the newly installed one is the only one used...

Not being handy, we thought we would ask our local RV service facility to see what they could do to remedy the situation, since we were already having them adjust our hitch to the new TT. They came up with the following:

Pretty neat how they put the drain right by the waste tank drains! We will have to be careful with it when we camp in cooler weather (i.e. when it might freeze overnight) but we're thinking of various ways to deal with that. SO much easier to reach!

Mine is the same way and I need to do a mod on it also to reach it. Not getting any younger you know and crawling under the rig is not happinin much longer. My plug is 1/2" PVC so putting in a threaded elbow and adding some pipe is not biggie. I just have to locate a spot to hang it to.

A proper drain you can reach and operate from the outside is especially nice if you are sanitizing the system and flushing and refilling without crawling under in the mess.

My Dutchmen has the FW drain in front of the first axel so I have to wiggle under it but fortunately it has a small ball valve attaced for draining.

That is basically the exact same mod I did on mine.... Makes it a TON easier draining or flushing the fresh water holding tank... Joe
