I took the tire to Discount in Cottonwood. The problem was a separation (see pics). Now the second part of the story. I take my paperwork to the front desk to show them the road hazar...

It wasn't a puncture. There was about 4" of a "crack" in the tread and separation at the point in the picture. It may be separated along the rest of the crack, but I didn't explore. The inside of the tire looks perfect.
