There are guys on this forum using the F150 echo boast.
I don't know what the new dodge is rated at, but more camper manufactures are making smaller campers again.
I had an import camper on my Isuzu pickup for over 10 year. Over weight, under powered, but I was still passing many smaller car on the mountain passes and it handled the load just fine!
My wife's Prius C gets 62 mpg going to work and 56 coming home. I bicycle to work as the 4 km commute would be detrimental to the truck.
I bought my 3500 srw diesel because it wasn't much more in cost than a Toyota Tundra in 2006 and it provided way more payload allowing me to get a bigger camper for the family.
If the new 1/2 diesel provides a decent pay load and you can find an appropriate camper - why not?
