Each time I bought a diesel powered pickup (5 of them) it was for a specific reason because something in my life changed the requirement. My most recent purchase, a dually, is because I have a 11,500 lb. Case 450 dozer I am towing on a 14,000 lb. rated gooseneck trailer.
It happens that I still have a truck camper and the dually makes it even a better handling and safer ride.
I started out with a 2000 2500 SWB, 4x4, 5 spd. manual transmission diesel pickup and progressed to a 2013 3500 LWB, 4x4, automatic transmission DRW diesel powered pickup.
If your job and pocket book fits a gas burner, go for it.
