and without either one, you got nuttin...
You got half that right....
Without torque you can't have hp
Without RPM you can't have hp
You can't have RPM without torque
You CAN have torque without hp or RPM.
And what will you do with torque and no hp or rpm?
When you put your truck in park on a hill what's holding it still?
Friction.
HAHAHAHA!!! Friction is heat. The parking pawl in the transmission does not create heat, friction, or HP. It creates torque that is being applied opposite of the force the hill is creating which is torque applied. If the parking pawl does not hold and the truck starts rolling down the hill then the hill is making more hp than the parking pawl because then you bring in torque the hill is applying and adding RPM from the truck rolling.
Friction can create heat but friction is not heat. Gravity cause the vehicle to try to move, not torque. Friction prevents the tires from sliding down the hill. The wheels exert torque on the axle, drive shaft and transmission shafts. The parking pawl prevents this torque from turning the transmission shafts, drive shaft and axle. It does not create torque. If the parking pawl does not hold, it's the reason most of us use a parking brake instead of being one of those who risks a run away vehicle on a hill due to gravity, not torque.
