The first engine is my current Cummins and the second is my former PowerStroke. Because of the other differences in platform, they really cannot be compared. But, for those of you wondering how the two compare:
Engine 1 - Cummins I6 6.7 with Aisin 6-speed and 4.88 gears with 225/70R19.5 tires
Engine 2 - Powerstroke V8 6.0 with Torqueshift 5-speed and 3.73 gears with 245/70R19.5 tires
Both loaded at 11,000 lbs GCVW, the PowerStroke will out accelerate Cummins to 60 mph.
Both loaded at 19,500 lbs GCVW, performance is too close to call without a stop watch.
I suspect the Cummins would continue gain on the PowerStroke as the weight increases due to the gearing, but I rarely exceeded 20K lbs GCWR with the former truck to get a baseline. The Cummins has just over 2000 miles on it, so I believe performance and mileage will increase as the engine wears in.
Is this an apples to oranges comparison? The manufacturers would like spout their numbers without taking these other things in consideration - You need to take these published specifications with a grain of salt because there are way more variables that play into the performance that meets the road.
