It was to prove a point. The manufacturers do the exact same thing in their glossy literature and hope you will be overwhelmed by their larger numbers and run down to the closest dealership with torque and horsepower numbers spinning in your head.
meh. cheap tricks. You don't want to lower yourself to their level.:)
Obviously rear end ratio is important. And Peak Torque and HP numbers are good info. But what I really want is the actual torque vs rpm curve. And even there, with all the sophisticated torque management built into today's engines, that doesn't tell the whole story.
There are a lot of factors, like you say. But you gotta make a decision somehow.
