Im a bit confused and need some clarification on this subject. I understand the difference between tq and hp. The OP states that HP, HP, HP and according to his theory torque won't help you win a race towing up a hill. I have real life experience with two different trucks pulling the same load up the same mountain.
My buddy and I take turns pulling my Bowfishing boat on trips. We go over the same mountains no matter what direction we go. He has a 2014 Tundra Crew Max with 5.7L and I have a 2006 Duramax with a EFI Live tow tune. Both trucks are 400hp (give or take a couple), but mine has 350tq more. His truck has a hard time keeping the speed limit going over the mountain, but with the same boat I can accelerate at will. His Tundra has a 4.30 rear end and my Duramax has a 3.73.
Maybe I misread 12 pages, but I think the jist of them was that this wasn't supposed to happen. Can someone explain this to me and please, use little words.:)
I'll try, but I have to go to a meeting so I will type fast. :B
1. You say both trucks are 400 HP. No they aren't. A 14 Yoda is listed at 381 HP so even if yours is 400 HP he is down 19 HP right off the bat.
2. You have a smoke box on your truck so you have no idea what it is putting down. Could be 400 HP could be 425 or 401? You have no idea and neither do I.
3. You say more than 6K. How much more? 6K and 5 foot or 8K or 10K? At 8K he is down to 290 HP. Even at 6K he is down to 313 HP and you're still at 400+.
As you can see from the math your going to be up around 100 HP even with your figures. Who do you think is going to win towing up a hill? A Dmax with around 400+ HP or a Yoda with around 300 HP or less?
PS I shortened all my words (Dmax for example instead of DuraMax) as much as I could per your request. :B
Got to go.
