Far more capable than a 1-ton pickup dually yet no more unwieldy to drive, much greater durability, only slightly less MPG, very similar initial cost to purchase. And not for nothing, you'll have much better control & braking of a big, heavy 5er since you'll have air suspension, air brakes, and massive components compared to a light-duty 3500 series pickup.
This is assuming you don't have a need or desire for a pickup bed, but since you're asking about it I'm guessing you do not.

My friend got a class 8 Volvo for under 30K. Add your new trailer to that and go. Save the other 40 grand for fuel and fun. Tiz what I would do. :)
