Why would GM even keep the Ram truck if they took over FCA??? "Merger" of a small company by a much larger one is the code words for killing off the little one so it no longer exists. Anyone in business knows this!
GM would eliminate the Ram truck very quickly as that would eliminate one of the 3 that make full sized trucks and leave the 2 remaining to share the in increased sales of theirs. Only 2 choices are left! GM and Ford are already working together and why would they need a loser manufacturer with old manufacturing facilities and old outdated technology/methods to get in the way? Buying manufacturing facilities and equipment that are antiquated and ready for the junkyard or destruction would make no sense at all. That would be pure stupidity! The real kicker lurking over such a takeover is having to acquire FCA's long term debt as noting at all is to be gained by doing so. FCA and Chrysler will be GONE including the RAM truck! FCA nor Chrysler really have nothing to offer other than old and failed low quality products and facilities and a several times failures in their financial history. Who'd want it?
Besides, ALL Ram 2500/3500 trucks are made in Mexico as are all Hemi engines and several other engines too and the diesel engines use in them are merely purchased from a supplier because Chrysler doesn't even make their own diesel engines for their 2500/3500 trucks. Ford and GM do and GM's Diesel is 100% GM owned and all made right here in Moraine, Ohio and so are their trucks made here in the USA.

Old, antiquated technology? Really, now your just talking out your .....! This post right here tells us how scared the GM flag wavers are! Everything in your post is ridiculous! - tomman58ExplorerInteresting, but fact being GM doesn't need or want anything but to be left to investing here in Michigan and other states for their future. Even their Tech center in warren Michigan is getting a 600 million change over.
Say what you wish but I'll stick with an American company. My Dmax 2500 is made in Flint Michigan be Americans that live here.
Sorry, but a lot of us older types grew up watching others copy and cheat to become later competitors and we don't ever forget that and what it has done to our country. - fla-gypsyExplorer

Too funny. The possibility of half a minor problem more or less per vehicle makes the difference between a pile of junk and a fine automobile. Less than two problems for any new vehicle seem pretty darn good to me.

I think Ram, Ford and GM all make really nice trucks.
That's entirely true. Despite my comments, meant to be a tongue in cheek response to some trolling, I'd buy any of the big three trucks if I needed one. I didn't rule any out when I shopped.
That said... Shhhhhh! Aren't you aware that this is a team sport? We only cheer for what we own, and our rivals are obviously miserable excuses of the product not fit to exist? We can only feel good and secure about our own purchase by tearing down the alternatives? How can I possibly enjoy a beautiful weekend camping with my wife and kids, marveling in all of creation, if I'm not allowed to berate what other people use to tow? Next you'll tell me I can't mock people who try to tow with a half ton truck!
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm taking my sure-to-explode Ram, and my entry level, soon-to-delaminate Crossroads camper and heading to Custer State Park in a few hours. Maybe I'll die a horrible flaming death due to my purchases. Or maybe I'll have a great weekend with my wife and kids. You're all welcome at my campsite to have a beer and find out! - IdaDExplorerThese threads are always entertaining. Pointless, and it makes you wonder how old some of the participants are, but entertaining nonetheless.
I think Ram, Ford and GM all make really nice trucks. They have their positives and negatives, and I have some personal preferences on the current models, but they're all good trucks. If you look back over the last several years I think it's fair to say the only real dogs of the bunch were the 6.0 PSD Fords, and even they weren't universally bad. - HannibalExplorerToo funny. - buckyExplorer IIDodge Guy and I will never agree on anything so I try to just let it go, but I can't this time.
A few auto editors say your product is junk? No, everybody in the whole world including JD Powers, Consumer Reports, Automotive News and the associated Auto Week, and darn near every other rating agency in America.
What I don't get is why people buy them when they spend 2 hours trying to find the best electric pencil sharpener but then go drop $60K on a FCA time bomb.
I tow with a Dodge btw, so I do have an open mind. - blofgrenExplorerNo matter what happens to FCA, I don't think the Ram truck (especially the Ram with the Cummins) is going anywhere anytime soon. This could be the reason why the Ram brand was separated from Chrysler officially in 2013.
The Ram Cummins is the best selling diesel pickup in Canada; although this is a small market compared to the US it certainly does say something. The US sales have been steadily increasing as well. - DakotaDadExplorer

Possibly. GM does make some fine vehicles. Ram, not so much.
Oh, I don't know. Ram seems to do ok.
Dependability plus Initial quality averaged PP100:
Ram
134+110 / 2 = 122 per 100 average
Chevy /GMC
123+123+101+115 /4 = 115.5 per 100 average
Ford
188 + 107 /2 = 147.4 per 100 average
Looks to me like Chevy makes a fine vehicle. Looks like Ram makes one very close. It's those Fords I don't think I'd touch. Clearly a few tiers behind GM and Ram in the quality department. Maybe they could use a little bailout money to bring themselves back up to GM/Ram levels!
But lies.. damned lies.. and statistics, right? ;)
