I am looking for a way to ensure that my refrigerator is maintaining a safe temperature. It seems as though it randomly freezes beverages. Has anyone seen or used a thermometer that has an indication of the highest temperature it's seen? I'm thinking that if I have something like that, as long as the max temperature never goes above 40-45, I'd feel a lot better about storing actual food in the fridge and not just drinks.

I use an indoor/ourdoor wireless thermometer. I put the outdoor unit in the refrigerator, and the inside unit on the counter. With just a glance, I can check the refrigerator temperature without having to open it up. I can also hit the display and see the highest and lowest temperature recorded since the last time I reset it.With the unit that I'm attaching in this link, you can put another monitor outside the coach to see and record the temperature outside.Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer

Outside air temp and which side of my truck camper faces the sun during the day will have an effect on the inside temp of my fridge. If I'm driving with the sun hitting the fridge side of the truck camper, that will affect fridge temp too.
I will usually have to set the temp setting one or two settings colder if the sun is hitting the side of the camper where the fridge is.

I've always had a fridge temp monitor in my truck camper and decided it was time for a wireless version. With the wireless version, some people will set the monitor in the truck when they are driving.

With the wireless version, I can move it between my two RVs.

The AcuRite 00986 is pretty nice as I show here

Lithium batteries are what's recommended in the sensors. Each sensor uses 2 AA. Display uses 2 AAA

What's the thermometer needed for? Is this like sitting and watching the weather forecast all day or are y'all preparing for dry aging or curing meat?

Ice cubes solid = Freezer good
Beer n milk cold = Fridge good

What's the purpose?

Looks very interesting indeed. I am wondering how the batteries in the sensors hold up to the constant cold, although the fridge is only periodically used for us so the batteries should not die too soon. Any comments on sensor battery longevity?

This is the unit we use, we full time and use lithium batteries in the remote units, and they last about a year or better.
Our refrigerator stays between 33 and 38 most of the time the freezer near zero.

I use one of these

and simply sample one at regular times throughout the day... No batteries needed...

I've tried just about every one available on Amazon over the years, but finally found a solid performer that doesn't eat batteries and is very accurate. It's a little pricey and the display is via Bluetooth on your phone, but we are extremely happy with it.

The Bluetooth signal is strong enough that I can check the temperature from outside the trailer.

I have been using varieties of those for several years, and I think you are worrying too much about the alligator clips. Currently I have one of the silver ones with the on/off switch like the picture, but it is secured with push on clips on both sides of the top. I am also using a homemade one with an alligator clip, and there really is no different. The very first one I used only had an alligator clip, and I had an alligator clip on hand so that is what I used when I made my own, with fans from ebay. I have a total of four fans on my fins and have no frost build up on them now.

They work very well, no matter which kind you use. They make the fridge work so well there is almost no difference from our home fridge.
