Thermostat wiring advice needed: digital for heat only
I am converting to a digital programmable thermostat on my 2005 Arctic Fox 990 truck camper. The thermostat will be for heat only. The pictures show the old simple thermostat wiring: red wire to R terminal, white wire to W terminal. BUT - there is a heavier black (ground?) wire on the W terminal along with the white wire. My question is what purpose does the black wire serve and does it need to be connected to a digital thermostat which is powered by batteries?
I went with a LUX TX1500U thermostat because it has swing adjustment and a physical "Off" switch. The wiring diagram plainly says near the top "(2-wire heat use RH & W1). Perfectly simple, but should I include the heavier black wire (& where) or should I discontinue its use?
