This new Wrangler can actually tow a trailer

There was a recent thread on using a Wrangler for towing a trailer, and the consensus was "bad idea." Well, I guess Jeep was listening to the discussion, and they came out with the Gladiator, which has a tow rating of over 7000 lb, with a pickup bed.

I'm not a Jeep person, but this new model may be worth a look:

Jeep fans, what do you think about this?

  • A 3.6L V6 isn't enough to tow 7,000 pounds. I don't care what they say. The wheelbase is appropriate for towing something a little bigger than a regular Jeep, however. I'm surprised they don't install a V8 in it; it'd certainly be a versatile truck with an appropriate powertrain.
  • It can tow a trailer, but not much of one. That max towing of >7000# is with a max payload of just over 1500#. Throw in a few options, it’ll drop pretty quickly.
  • This is not the first time Jeep has made a truck.
Every so often they dust off/update the idea.

    I have always liked them
  • My concern is payload on upper level models. Sport compares with myTahoe at 1595.

Sport 4x4 Payload Capacity - When Properly Equipped - Standard1,600 lb
    Sport S 4x4 Payload Capacity - When Properly Equipped - Standard1,600 lb
Overland 4x4 Payload Capacity - When Properly Equipped - Standard1,140 lb
Rubicon 4x4 Payload Capacity - When Properly Equipped - Standard1,190 lb
  • I think it's a winner. It's already selling quite well. They plan on throwing the diesel in it too. It can't do what the Wrangler can as far as 4 wheeling, but it gets close. Plenty for this old guy.

I'll probably opt to stay in the full size segment myself though.
