Give the guy a break ... he is just some guy trying to earn a buck. Where does the dealership ever represent that you can rely on anything their salesmen tell you. More likely, you waive the ability to rely on anything they said when you are signing the papers! The guy likely isn't even a "car person," much less someone as obsessed with towing as people on here are, and is just parroting things he's heard others say. He'll probably be on the Honda lot next month trying to deal with a completely different set of customers and issues, and at the electronics store a few months after that.

And if you EVER are relying on someone for accurate advice who is in an adversarial relationship to you, you are doing it wrong!
