Thoughts

Hey all, we had really been leaning towards a Coachman Freedom Express series but tonight seen a few Rockwood ones, and a Windjammer, they seem really well equipped, any thoughts on these?

Someone on one of your previous posts mentioned that Coachmen has a cr@ppy frame made of pieces welded together to form an I beam.
So just wondering, what makes a rolled I beam better then a welded I beam?

The simulated I-beams have a lot of flex. Cracking can result where cross members are welded to the side. Mine cracked at both ends of two members. I added steel to beef up my frame. Best thing is to look carefully how the I-beam is constructed and never buy a pieced together piece of junk.
  • Which layout meets your anticipated camping lifestyle? Can you access the galley and head while at a Rest Area with the slide(s) closed?

They're all Forrest River products so you'll see roughly the same quality and construction between them. It really just comes down to a layout that works for you. We had a look at the Flagstaff units, but ended up choosing the Freedom Express line.
  • We are in our 2nd year with our Flagstaff (Rockwood twin) Other than some minor issues and bad LED fixtures in a few places, we are pleased with our trailer. We like the 3 slide rear living layout as it gives us much room for hanging out and staying out of one an others way. I have towed this unit in excess of 10,000 miles so far with no issues. I did change the tires to ones I have more confidence in and tow at speeds up to 70 MPH. I have no experience with the coachman product so I can't give a comparison.

  • We haven't ever had a Coachman so can't compare, but we are on our 2nd Rockwood/Flagstaff (they are twins). Moderate price, workmanship is fair, but we bought for the size and layout. So far we have not been unhappy with our 2nd trailer (the Rockwood); we did have some big issues with wheels/axles in the 1st one (probably the TT was too big for the axle ratings & should have had heavier-duty ones.)

Something that should be considered also is the dealer, especially if they have a local reputation. Those with reputation for fair dealing and especially good service are definitely worth dealing with, even if the trailer model is somewhat less preferable. Certainly true if all else is equal!
