Tie downs for a flatbed

I just got a RAM 5500 with a 11.5 ft Knapheide PGNC flatbed and was wondering how people with flatbeds tie down their truck campers. I'm looking at getting an Eagle Cap 1165 which will come in around 6000 lbs full loaded.

Thanks

-Pete
  • I went with the short range FastGuns on the right directly to the stake pockets and use 3/4" horse stall mats between the camper and bed.

  • Flatbeds generally have anchor points built in. Either a rub rail with stake pockets, or D-rings in the floor.

If the flatbed you're looking at does not have anchor points, and lots of them, look elsewhere. A flatbed is completely worthless without some way to anchor the cargo.
  • I bolted the D-rings down through the diamond plate into a bar that spans at least 2 cross members . If it stops raining I'll see f I can get a picture .

I'm also interested in hearing what tie downs others are using with flatbeds.
I've been researching aluminum flatbeds to replace the box on my 2006 F-450.

Also just a heads up on the estimated weight of a EC1165...
I took my truck over to the local grain elevator 3 weeks ago to get an empty weight (full fuel tanks, no tailgate) and then loaded up my new EC1165 with 6v batteries & full propane tanks, but before I put any of my stuff in and no water.
    Truck - 9200 lbs
    Truck & Camper - 14780 lbs
    Camper - 5580 lbs

I haven't weighed it yet after loading all my stuff and with full water... but 66 gals of water is 528 lbs.
  • I special ordered a set of 4 front Torklift Anchorguards ( all short spring loaded ) and attach to the flatbed with heavy duty D-rings . This kept them inside the flatbed so I could close in the sides . I didn't bother with the fastguns because I don't remove often and they are easy enough to remove .
  • Others that actually have flatbeds will probably be on here later, but I suppose all tie down their truck campers. ;) There are a few threads on using flatbeds, so you might want to search for any additional information, and you might try including the archives as well when you search.
