- JimK-NYExplorer IITwo weeks ago, I was ready for an extended trip of 15000 miles and several months. There is not much left for me to do except to transfer the food, supplies and clothing back to the house.
I do have a possible recommendation for anyone with time on their hands wanting to make an improvement. Someone mentioned applying a couple of coats of wax on their camper. Waxing is a lot of work and at best only makes a difference for a few weeks or months. I would recommend using some time to apply ZEP acrylic floor finish. I did so 5 years ago and the results are still impressive. A few weeks ago, the camper had been sitting under trees for over a year with piles of leaves and rotten muck on the roof. Normally that would have meant really dirty sides with black streaks. Instead I did not even need to wash the camper. I cleaned off the muck and merely rinsed the sides. No streaks, no dirt. The finish still looks good and beads water. For the 5 year period, my maintenance has been minimal. Every couple of years I have applied an additional ZEP coat. That just involves wiping down the camper with a rag dampened in ZEP. Most of the time and work is just spent going up and down and moving the ladder.
If you do a ZEP finish, plan on taking a full day for prep and the initial coats. You will need to thoroughly clean and then scrub the camper with wax stripper and bar keepers friend to remove any carnuba wax or oxidation. Then you need to apply 4 light coats of ZEP. - Grit_dogNavigator III have some "time" for the first time in years! And still working like 60 hours a week, but with the kids home (13&17), there's no sports, extracurricular stuff and they have a nice long list of projects that I'll be able to accomplish, correction, they will accomplish for me.
Example, I tore down the rotten grape arbor to rebuild and old chicken coop. They get to pick it all up and haul it to the bonfire pile or dumpster. Then I can show them how to rebuild the arbor and they can finish it.
Deck rebuild is next, power washing, dirtbike work, mowing edging, beauty bark, planting. They detailed all the cars today. Moms car is getting an oil change tomorrow, unsupervised!
Correction, actually they have time to do my projects! Gotta learn somewhoo!
Camper just needs batteries. - LwiddisExplorer III too am in a waxing mode when this rain storm ends in SoCal.
- srschangNomadBought a new Northstar 12 STC a couple months ago. Brought it home, and have been working on it since them. Looks like I'm going to have time to continue working on it.
So far:
- Removed bathroom mirror, added medicine cabinet
- Removed factory power converter, replaced with a lithium battery compatible converter
- Ran heavier wires from converter to batteries
Installed the following:
- 2 Battle Born 100ah lithium batteries
- 2000 watt inverter and remote switch
- Victron battery monitor
- 4 100w solar panels
- 45w MPPT solar controller
- 27"x 17" x 8" under camper sliding storage bin
- sewer hose storage tube under camper
- 32" tv and pivoting mount
- A second transfer switch for 110v power. Camper now will run on inverter, then automatically switch to shore power if plugged in, or switch to generator power if generator is started
- Added a separate breaker subpanel for the converter so it won't try to charge the batteries when we're running on the inverter
And of course put 2 coats of wax on the camper!
Can't wait for things to start reopening here in the Northeast so we can actually use the camper. - Kayteg1Explorer IIBTW. I filled up water tank in my RV and topped off batteries. Already had plenty of propane.
Even water and power troubles should not be an issue, 2 weeks ago nobody worried about coronavirus neither. - work2muchExplorerReseal the RV roof.
Building a carport to put the tc under.
Considering a small ground solar array to be used in conjunction with the TC's LFP battery and inverter to power our house this summer sans the air conditioner. - Kayteg1Explorer IIMy Sprinter conversion went on high gear since my retirement parties come to halt.
Hobby is very good for situation like that. We do have few single friends in "high risk age" and we worry about them going into depression.
That's what I did with Lance camper last Saturday.
