Shucks... I think there's at least 6 million acres of National Forest in Washington State alone, and by Federal Law one can camp free anywhere in National Forests (unless an area is specifically closed or an established "fee" campground)
And that's just one Federal agency...BLM, COE, and the Bureau of Reclamation ALSO have such wide open spaces.
Thing is, most such lands are in the West...I pity folks back East!
