CKNSLS makes good points about the attitudes of some on these fora regarding Maxxis tires that frankly borders on the sickening. No one has studied if those who actually had blowouts using non-Maxxis tires had switched to another reputable brand AND used the tires within spec, had any repeated failures thereby supporting a logical and factually-based hypothesis that Maxxis is the Holy Grail. It is simple enumeration at best.
Personally, I have no issue with Maxxis at all. I am sure they are fine tires which with proper maintenance will last a long time. The SAME can be said about the other tires that the Maxxis disciples love to imperiously and scornfully dismiss. There are those of us who DO use these tires, who maintain our tires properly, who use them within spec and who do NOT see any of the doom and catastrophe prescribed (not predicted!) by the naysayers.
At the end of the day, if Maxxis was so great tire companies all over would be stocking these for the consumer to easily purchase. How many posts have we read here where the person desirous of putting the Maxxis tires on their RV had to order it because it was not normally stocked? What is wrong with these tire sellers? Don't they have any sense?!
Maybe a significant portion of this nonsense is due to political reasons since the posts almost always denigrate a certain other Far East country which apparently is the US's biggest creditor. That is a separate issue, and if folk want to vote with their wallets then that is fine but to cast aspersions on all tires from China when the scientifically-proven proportion of failures is likely statistically similar to the Maxxis made in Thailand or wherever, is absurd. These are the same folk who want top quality for cheap. Well friends, it is our very demand for cheap that is pushing production to China, but then you know that already. Lets not be hypocritical here.
