Ha ha, interesting discussions! I didn't know about the TPMS that can be added in the wheels/tires for our travel trailers. I'm going to swing by Camping World on my way home to see if I can find what you guys/girls are talking about. Let me know if there is a brand that you prefer or had good experience with. Thanks for the recommendation!
Just for the record, we bought our Jayco new in 2008. We still have the factory tires which appear to be a generic name. They are ST 185/80D13, Load 1660 lbs., Tread - 5 plies and Side Wall - 3 nylon plies. Anyway, it's a tandem axle and so far all 4 tires have been flawless. I have kept track of the miles, but I'm guessing that we have 30K miles on the tires. Before each trip, I simply check the tire PSI and inspect for budges, irregularities or tire wear. I still have the factory spare, plus I purchased another spare wheel and put a maxxis tires on it. I don't remember exactly where I got the info, but I read somewhere that Maxxis ST tires were highly recommended. Since we live at 7,000 feet in the Southwest, I also have wheel covers over the tires at all times when parked. I'm pretty confident that the wheel covers help prolong the life of the tire. Anyway, my nearly 6 year old factory tires have held up great and are now down to 4/32 tread depth. Time for new tires!
