Well Jack, and I too contacted Continental, and the reply I got was the Vanco 2 would "be a very good choice for my trailer". I gave them specifics about the trailer and current wheels and tires that were on it from the factory when I wrote to ask them. I am on the road now, and the specific information I got from them is at home.
One has to wonder when we look on the tire rack site they specifically state that all LT tires are rated for trailer use. I would think they did not come to that conclusion on their own. Perhaps, but it seems more likely to me they got that approval from their tire suppliers.
One also has to wonder that if the tire companies allow and even recommend LT tires for heavier trailers, where presumably the stresses ( and therefore failure potentially more likely ), then why would they disallow them for lighter trailers ? Makes little sense to me....unless, for instance in the case of Good Year, they have a dedicated ST tire in their lineup.
I guess this is another case of where honest intended men shall have to disagree. I will leave it at that. If others want to run ST tires, then more power to them. My research, and personal experience and talking face to face with others who have personal experience in all this has led me down the road of using, and recommending LT tires.
To be quite honest with you and the rest that may still be reading this, the ONLY reason I still get involved in these discussions is because I see plenty of well intended, honestly "new" folks visiting this forum, looking for answers to their questions. All too often, they get....well.....we can all see what they get.
I would just hope that some of them can come away with at least enough enlightenment to compel them to go out do some homework on their own. I feel ( opinion to follow....and that is all it is...opinion ) facts and evidence are out there sufficient to make an educated decision regarding tires for trailers.
As always, good to hear from you. I hope the weather is still nice over where you are....it's still very nice over here in Arizona right now.
Best to you all and happy, safe, prosperous new years wishes.
