Tire Pressure Monitor systems

Tire Minder with repeater. Works great and never lose signal.

Some people think the TPMS systems are a waste of money. I've personally seen the thousands of dollars in damage blown tires have caused.

The member above is correct in stating that a TPMS will not prevent a blow out, and I agree.

What it will tell you is two important things;

1. It will alert you of a blow out which is not always evident with some of the larger trailers. I had a flat tire tire twice and was unaware until a motorist got my attention. I felt nothing. If you let this go, the tire shreds and cause much damage.

2. It will alert you if you have a tire slowly going flat, like if you picked up a nail. In this case, you will prevent the blow out and "possibly" save the tire with an easy repair.

Others argue that if you avoid the China bomb tires and only run quality tires, you don't need the TPMS. To each his own, you can still pick up a nail with a quality tire.

Finally, another argument against TPMS I've heard is, "I constantly scan my mirrors looking at the tires and will immediately see any evidence of a flat". 2 problems wrong with this; 1. You can't see the tires on some rigs, they're too far back or too far under the rig. 2. This method does not work at night.

In the end, each of has to go with what we are comfortable with. For me, I like the reassurance provided while cruising at night and being able to monitor all my tires. Call it peace of mind if you will.

Dah! Discount Tire, Tire Kingdom, Walmart.
A tire monitor DOES NOT prevent a tire from blowing out. It might warn you of increasing heat or high or low pressure, but only if you catch it in time, And that's a big maybe.

Highly recommended.
Not cheap, but can help prevent maybe thousands in damage. One blowout can cost a bunch more than a set of new tires.
A plus is not having to go around with a pressure gauge in the morning before leaving.

I know this isn't a travel trailer post, same results to slides and plumbing. If you are running an older unit or an orphan parts might not be available.

In our case it's cost of damage and down time if a tire blows, more than tire cost. $5,000-$10,000 isn't uncommon on a motorhome if the tire takes out the tanks, hydraulic system, battery bay, inverter or electrical bay, plus all the body damage. When we are at the factory service center probably 10% of the 120 parking sites is taken up those that blew rear tires. Then waiting 4-6 weeks for repairs to be completed

I use a PressurePro system and have been very happy with it. It has proven to be extremely reliable and effective. On several occasions over the years it has let me know that I have a tire going down before it became a flat or worse, a blow-out that could result in a serious accident and expensive repairs. It has proven to me that it is a vital piece of safety equipment that is well worth the money.

I second the TST. I have a 30 foot dual axle TT and have used the TST Flow Thru for over 5 years. As much as the pressure readin I like the temperature reading.

we have a tireminder system. reason I went with it is that one system lets you configure two trailers and select which one you are connected to. Since I have two trailers we pick and choose from it works well.

So far very happy with it. But there are multiple high quality systems out there.
