tire pressure of SUV while towing boat

I typically tow my TT with my truck tires inflated to max pressure indicated on sidewalls. What about my wife's Buick Enclave? We will use it to tow my boat 800 miles. The boat and trailer that it sits on weighs 2600#. Should I inflate the Enclave tires and boat trailer tires to the max just like I do on my truck and TT? Thanks.

  • No.

(And you shouldn't be inflating them to the max on the sidewall on your truck either, unless the tire is seing the max rated load. Inflate the tire for the load they will see per the manufacturer's load vs. inflation pressure chart)

To expand...the door tag on my truck says 50 PSI front, and 71 PSI rear. That's what I inflate my tires to. It doesn't say "max", it doesn't say "suggested", it just states the pressure. I'll assume the guys that designed the truck know a little more than I do.

If they know so much, why would the spare require 80 psi? That's more than any tire on the ground needs. :-)

  • what is the enclave rated to tow? a 2600 lb. tow doesn't seem very drastic, especially when you consider that it is a boat.
