tire size question

the tires on my new to me tt are will past their lifespan. looking to replace all 4 (ill keep the best 2 as spares) The ones on the trailer are 225-75-15. would there be any issue im not thinking of if I replaced them with 205-75-15 since I can get these faster and cheaper. Thinking the difference should be minimal and these should fit on my current rims no problem. Educate me please.

    The 205 75 15 will be fine. My Wildwood has that size and carries 6000 pounds loaded and is still under the weight rating. At 4500 pounds you would be way under the weight for 205 75 15.

    I would go with a known brand and avoid the cheapest.

    Go faster and cheaper if you want but when a blowout causes maybe a thousand dollars damage and ruins a vacation then cheaper and faster may not be the answer.

    Exactly how much cheaper are we talking? I just want to know how much your family is worth to you.

    BTW NADA SHOWS A 5100 lb gross weight so have you weighed the trailer or is the 4500 lb our guess?

    The words faster and cheaper are what usually get me in trouble. Thats why when my oem BlowMaster tires looked grimm after four years I opted for Maxxis replacement which took three days from order to mounted for $535. For your weight trailer the smaller tire max load would be fine you could even go to smaller 14" rim LRC and still carry the weight.

    Jebby14: Consider what might happen if you have a problem with one tire. The other one on that side will have to carry the load.

    Most tires have a safety factor that will not let the second blow because of a failure while slowing down to make repairs. Would I want to think that two tires can just carry the load, but one tire would be overloaded by 90%? Not for an instant.

    it currently has a mix of c and d raiting tires. the 205s are d and the 225s are e. I don't see the advantage of a larger tire if I don't need the load range.

    205's will not carry the load that 225's will. Load range rating is also important ie C is less than D. Since most TT manufacturers use marginally adequate sizes on suspension system components it is always better to size up than down.

    The smaller tire will have probably not have load rating of the larger tire.

    You can usually find the ratings on the tire companies web sight.

    you are asking for trouble downsizing your tires, i would go a size bigger and get LTs instead of STs.
