Hey. No offense taken. I have always had good luck with BFG for towing and off road rubber. I am sure there are many other quality alternatives in 35” diameter.
I had never heard of them described as soft though. Does this mean the compound or the sidewalll stiffness? How did you arrive at this conclusion? Not wanting to be confrontational, genuinely curious if there is some measure of this.
As for going from 33 to 35 inch tire and it’s effect on gearing, it would seem like it’s time to pull out a gear ratio chart. That is a jump of about 8%. Really negligible. Couple hundred RPM at cruising speed.
:-)
Yeah, there are lots and lots of stories on the truck forums about them causing problems. Most of them thought the sidewalls were too flexible. I don't remember if there was anything about tread.
I too would be very concerned about changing the effective gear ratio. Made that mistake once myself with tires and had to endure until they wore out.
I have KO2's on my truck now and my only complaint is that the tread is wearing faster than I'd like. I have no problems at all with towing/hauling performance or overall performance in general. They don't feel any softer than the stock Firestones and they're rated for the same weight and max PSI.
The effective gear ratio change is minimal with the size tire OP is looking at and wouldn't even be noticeable given that he's got a Powerstroke.
