- Itakethe5th2011ExplorerMany years ago I bought a set of Michelin. With in a year the sidewall started to crack. After 2 years, the whole sidewall was very badly cracked. Michelin was recalling the truck tire 1 size below what I had, Called them and was told they don't cover sidewall cracking, only tire separation or blow outs. I removed them and bought American made Cooper HT3. Got 60,000 miles out of that set and have replaced them with another set of Cooper tires. I will never own Michelin tire again.

OP, let me guess, even with your listed highway percentages, I'd bet you do a fair amount of driving into the mountains and back? Plain and simple fact is that mountainous driving is much harder on tires, expect shorter tire life. Add in the weight of these trucks on mountainous roads...
I do live in the mountains, just west of Denver, and have experienced the same short tire life. The OEM Michelin tires only lasted 22k miles. Went with another tire after, forget the name, but again, about 23k miles. I'm currently running Goodyear Wrangler Duratac now with about 25k miles and still looking good. I suspect I might get 40k miles out of them. My priorities were around load range E with decent traction on snow. - Me_AgainExplorer IIII took my Firestone ATs off at 29K(drive around the block and see less tread), the Michelin's Defenders have about 37K on them and are about half worn out.

- Edd505ExplorerMy 5W is about the same weight as yours, I run Yokohama Geolandar HT. I have 40K+ and they will likely need changed by years end.

Just like me, another unhappy Michelin customer. Never again with the sidewall cracking and poor customer support. - dieseltruckdrivExplorer II

I just put a set of Cooper HT3s on my pickup. They seem to ride nice on the 5 miles I have on them. I have always had good luck with Coopers. I had been running Goodyear Wranglers for years because they worked so well on snow and ice. They changed their tires, and I didn't like the offerings, so I went straight to Cooper. I got about 30,000 out of my last sets, and that is about average for me, with mainly mountain driving. - larry_barnhartExplorerI have a friend with 2 sets of michelin tires on his ram and both cracked very early. I am on our 2nd set with no cracks on the first or the tires on the truck now. I know of many MH michelin tires that looked like a dry desert.
Nothing is perfect.
chevman - Curly2001Explorer IINot happy with Michelin LTX. Never got over 35K out of them with mostly unloaded freeway driving. Have used Bridgestone with good mileage but the ride was not great. New truck came with Firestone Transforce and am not expecting much from them either.
