If you will reread the original post, the OP did not have a unit yet. He intends to full time and travel all over for work. He doesn't need to play around with small, cheap tires on a small cheap trailer, because he needs to get to work.
Nowhere did I read "get 16" LT tires immediately" but it does sound like a good idea for those that actually work for a living. Sure there are darn few trailers that have 16" but they are the best of what's out there.
Randomly slapping higher priced and over sized tires on any trailer DOES NOT "GUARANTEE" THAT NO BLOWOUTS WILL HAPPEN, PERIOD.
If OP is buying a NEW trailer the OP should USE WHATEVER COMES ON THE TRAILER. There is no real good reason for the OP to "negotiate" supposedly "better" tires whether it is a perception of brand, type (ST vs LT) just because YOU or anyone else "thinks" or "says" the OP should..
The MANUFACTURER MUST put at a minimum tires which MEET the specs that they the manufacturer GUARANTEES IN WRITING will be of sufficient capacity for the max load of the trailer.
After that it is the BUYER'S RESPONSIBILITY to ENSURE the tires are properly inflated to max pressure and that THEY THE OWNER DO NOT OVERLOAD THE TRAILER..
Blowouts do happen, they do happen even if you over spec the tires.. There are many times you run over road hazards and never know it..
Heck, I had a blowout on my pickup truck years ago.. RUNNING EMPTY with proper LT tires with proper "E" rating for that truck..
It wasn't due to a defect in the tire or overloading but due to a BOLT that was laying on the road which I NEVER SAW. The tire shop pointed out to me the HOLE which was too big for a nail that was punched into the TREAD (the thickest part of a tire).. The heck of it was the FRONT TIRE ROLLED RIGHT OVER THE BOLT WITH NO DAMAGE.. The REAR tire is the one that bit the dust..
