Titan replacement tank

I have a Chevy 2015 3500 duramax dually. I am looking to replace stock tank with a Titan 62 gallon tank. I have 2 questions.
1) does anyone have one installed and how much below frame does it stick down.
2) also did you put the shield on it.

Thanks
Dennis

  • I have used a Transfer Flow tank on both a GMC Duramax and an 8.1. I have not had a Titan tank, but the basics are the same.

The fuel gauge works about the same. For instance my Transfer Flow tank, when the gauge reads full the tank will be full, 1/2 the same etc. Where it changes is with my tanks (45 gal, short box) is when I have about 10 gallons left the low fuel light will come on rather than I believe its 3 gallons in the stock tank.

The fuel flow meter works the same between the stock tank and the larger tank. If I use 40 gallons out of the tank the meter will still read the amount of fuel use as it would in the case of the orginal tank (in my case my fuel flow meter is about 1.5 gallons light, I merely add 1.5 gallons to the meter reading and things are pretty close.)

I tend to use the fuel flow meter more than the tank reading because it is more accurate as far as I am concerned.

I do not use the fuel remaining feature because it will not function properly.

Having the range is always great especially when we are on the road for long overnight runs.

One day I will get a TItan Tank.

One thing I do know is the larger capacity means the fuel gallons used, and distance to empty numbers will no longer be valid.
I've read about the Titan tanks over on www.duramaxforum.com
You might get more feedback over there

My fuel gallons used is exactly the same as it was with the OEM tank. The distance to empty is off however, but can be reprogrammed by your GM dealer to allow for the increased fuel load. In my case I went from 26 gal to 52 gal and I can multiply by 2 in my head pretty easy.

I have put their 52 gallon on my truck 9 years ago.

    1) A couple of inches
    2) No

I have zero concern about the tank sticking down a little. Long before anything could damage it all of the wheels and their attach points would be gone. Not something I have ever worried about.

If I was taking my truck off road it might be different, but I don't.

For me the benefit was choosing where to fill. Different states have different cost per gallon. Latest average price per gallon according to AAA:
    AZ $2.164 x 87 = $188
    CA $2.655 x 87 = $231
    NV $2.483 x 87 = $216

Where would YOU rather fill up?

I can fill my 34 gallon OEM tank and put another 53 gallons in my auxiliary tank, if I were completely empty.

    X2,
    1. minimizes worry about finding fuel when you are traveling in areas/states you are unfamiliar with.
    2. Traveling in the south west can take you across some areas less populated with min. services.
    3. Having the choice of driving 700 to 800 miles with out fueling up is a benefit if I need to. I drive 300 to 500 miles normally.
    4. The purpose of an auxiliary larger fuel tank is not to drive "marathons" but rather to just give me options. I stop at every rest stop just to take the "kinks" out of my butt:)
    5. My suspicious nature makes me wonder why diesel prices vary so much from state to state??? Who is riping off diesel users and for what reasons????

  • I had one on my 2011 f350 srw diesel before I sold it last week. It was awesome! Stock tank was 26 gallons. Titan tank was 48! I installed it myself. Instructions say 3-4 hr install time, but I took 8+ hours. It didn't hang down from the frame anymore than a couple inches more than stock tank. Not noticeable at all on my ford. I did not buy the tank guard as I don't do a lot of rough off-roading. After install, I took it to a ford dealership service center and explained what I did and had them reprogram the fuel level sensor to reflect the larger capacity. It was great to see 800 miles + to empty on the display screen. Even better was to not have to stop to refuel as often.

Just to give you some comparison, you might Call "Transfer Flow" in Chico and ask them what they have for your truck.
