Titan Tank for 2015-2019 GM HD's

I stopped in at Titan Tanks today (based out of my hometown) and they are moving forward with XL tanks for these pickups. Sounds like they will be available in a couple months. So for anyone interested, they are going to build them. That was in question for a bit, they were unsure if the 2020 HD truck would be substantially different in the chassis which could would mean the 2015-2019 HD's would require its own tank design and the 2020 truck would require another redesign of their tank. Don't know if it will be the same or not or if they just decided to build the tank for the 4 model year run anyway. I am just happy that they are building it.
  • Shouldn't make any difference if GM re-designs their frame area for fuel tanks and Titan has to come out w/ another tank model. Folks have "X" year trucks and as such should be able to get aftermarket accy's fuel tanks being one of them regardless what GM, Ram or Ford does down the road. They should adapt part of the Marine motto :"Adapt and overcome".
  • Yes I don't disagree, it sounded like their issue was whether to produce the tank for a short model year run. A business decision on their part. Do they want to go after that small part of the market or start with the 2020 model year. I suspect that after GM increased the OEM fuel tank from 26 gallons in the GMT900 for the short box to 36 gallons there hasn't been as much demand for their fuel tanks for those trucks. We just got a '19 Chevy 3500 short box and while the 36 gallon tank is better, it still doesn't give us the range that the Titan gave us in the 08 truck that it is replacing. That truck finds itself in BFE Idaho so tank capacity is big deal. I was trying to lobby for them to make a tank for these trucks. Whatever their issue was they saw past it.

I'll agree on the tank size. We had a 04.5 short box with the 26 gallon tank. With a diesel towing it was marginal at best. With a gas engine towing IMHO it would have been a real PITA.

Our 2015.5 short box has the 36 gallon tank. Would 50ish be better? yes. But the 36 is for us at least adequate with a diesel and given the costs of the bigger tank, I don't plan on going for it. Had we planned on keeping the 04.5 I would likely have paid the bucks for a bigger tank.

Now if we had a gas engine, another story
  • For you guys wanting a tank but not the cost, have you thought of cruising Craigslist or local Facebook ads? They do come up for sale and if you are at all handy could install yourself. I have a 50 gal Transfer Flow in bed tank that I bought new in 03 and it's now in my 07

  • Transfer tanks don't work for this application. I have them in other trucks, but this one in particular cant be in the bed.
