Titus canyon road Death Valley

Good Afternoon!

Has anybody taken a full size truck and hard side camper on Titus Canyon Road?
Was planning on being out that way and was wondering if it's doable. Was a little concerned when I saw a section called "The Narrows". My rig is a 2006 RAM Dually 4x4, Cummins, six speed, basic AT tires carrying a Lance 915.

THANKS!
  • I've done Titus canyon in my previous Outfitter but haven't done it with my 86FB. Like others have said, I've seen a little bit of everything on the Titus Canyon drive.
  • I have an old 94 Itasca 21 foot class C and I've driven it on that road with no problems. You may also see people in cross overs, mini vans and even cars. The road IS maintained, just not very well. Most parts are hard packed graded dirt that is smooth enough for a passenger vehicle. Other parts can be a bit rough and may resemble some inner city deferred maintenance street. You only need a "rugged" vehicle when it has rained and the roads are rutted, washboarded or loose filled and the grader has no come yet. Otherwise, we're not talking some fire road where a D-7 is needed to get through. Drive, absorb the views and don't worry. (remember the grader and roller truck sits 12 feet up in the air and is 10 feet wide but doesn't scrape the walls)

  • The above video is a few years old and of the "narrow" part of Titus Canyon. This is us driving my 2007 F250 hauling a 2002 Lance 815. Stop by and see Rhyolte ghost town near the trail-head for Titus Canyon.
  • THANKS EVERYBODY!
Looking forward to some time out that way!
Now just to get my truck and camper down black bear in CO....
  • While conditions can change most trail warnings in DV are a bit overdone.
  • Of course it changes from year to year depending upon the washouts, but this was our Titus canyon trip from 2007:

Here is a video I shot thru the narrows. I have taken a variety of vehicles thru Titus Canyon including a full size pickup (less camper). You will fit. The road thru the canyon is not too bad. Probably the worst is the approach from the Nevada side. Lots of washboard. The road is one way so no opposing traffic. Take your time and enjoy. There is a ghost town in the canyon with a colorful past. Google Leadfield, CA
