A couple of important items you gain by purchasing a new truck.
All the latest safety equipment and features....in many cases, those are a HUGE improvement in an older vehicle.
The advent of an exhaust brake as standard equipment. I really can't imagine not having one after having one! They really are amazing.
When I was looking for a truck in 2013 I was not brand loyal, just looking for the highest GVWR and cargo rating. At that time it was the 3500 DRW RAM, so I purchased the diesel version.
These days with multiple slide out campers you can easily go over that 14,000 lb limit....
When you go with a 5500 or 550 series truck, you do loose some of the niceties that are present in the cabin as it is considered a work truck AND it will ride like one.
Good luck!
