Toliet/shower questions

I am looking at a northstar 650sc and would like opinions on the absence of a camode/shower unit. Too new to this tc stuff and still deciding between a pop up or hard side. I prefer to not stay at paid camp grounds, more remote stuff where an external shower might work or a sponge type cleaning will have to do on the cooler days/nights. Is anyone regretting not having these conveniences? Thanks.
  • the best upgrade I have made, went from a six pac without a toilet to a adventurer with a toilet, it paid for itself the first night...get the bath wet or dry.
  • It was an essential component for us and that's why we went with the Lance 865. We use the bathroom all we can, but occasionally use campground showers when we find clean well maintained campground facilities. That allows us to keep things dry in the rig rather than use the shower mode. Showering isn't all that bad as we just squeegee things off quickly after each use.

We found we have to take shorter showers inside the rig as the gray water tank is only 13 gallons and will fill fast. In our fiver we tend to "wallow" in the shower until the hot water runs out- but not in the TC. Black water storage does not seem to be a problem in the 865.

We have not found the outside shower to be very useful for bathing. Its handy for washing our hands outside the rig in the campground, or getting a bit of water for other needs.
  • We get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Im thankful i dont have to go outside to do this anymore. I also prefer to shower at night - rinse turn off water to soap then rinse again - nothing better sleeping clean on clean sheets. Its all a matter of preference.
  • I use the toilet all the time, but the tiny shower is useless. Used it once,at home in driveway,to see if it worked. The cassette is nice and convenient but I think a porta potty would be just as handy. For about a $100 you can get a screen type shower enclosure which would be nice out in the boonies.
  • My upgrade was from a pop up to a hard side with a toilet. I felt bad for the wife getting up in the middle of the night. Plus I am not fond of community toilets. We ca stealth camp in a hard side.
I have never used a portable on so I cannot say if that is a rout to go. I do not mind going a weekend or longer with out a shower when a dip in a lake works to an extent.
