This discussion is amazing. One conclusion that we can draw is that a new person to TT or 5er has a good chance of mismatching the TV to the TT. I did. It was a very expensive mistake. Now that I understand more, when I see a thread asking about a specific TT/TV combination, I realize that the vast majority of people out there towing could well be exceeding one capacity or another of their TV's. If you dig enough, the TV makers do offer some numbers that should make it possible to correctly match the TT to the TV. However, even with that help, it isn't easy when the prospective purchaser doesn't even know what questions to ask. We have established that a lot of RV outfits either don't know how to help their customers or don't want to if it hurts a sale.
It's hard to believe in this era of consumer protection that no agency has stepped up to force both TV and TT manufacturers to help people make a safe matchup. If this discussion proves nothing else, it shows that even among experienced people, the complexity of the problem makes causes significant confusion. Is there a way to simplify all this so that it will be easy for anyone to make the correct choices?
