Typical weight ratings for Class III trailer hitches:
Maximum gross trailer weight: 3,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs
Maximum tongue weight: 300 lbs to 600 lbs
Typical weight ratings for Class IV trailer hitches:
Maximum gross trailer weight: 5,000 lbs to 12,000 lbs
Maximum tongue weight: 500 lbs to 1,200 lbs
2-1/2" receivers (which your FORD may have) Class V
Typical weight ratings for Class V trailer hitches:
Maximum gross trailer weight: 10,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs
Maximum tongue weight: 1,000 lbs to 1,800 lbs
2200# tongue weight.......that's 3" HD receiver territory. Up to 25,000# trailer weight and tongue weights up to 4000#

I have a Class V hitch with a 2" receiver and a non-WD tongue weight max of 2,400lbs and a max tow limit of 17,000lbs. However, it is not a factory hitch. The factory Class IV hitch that came on my truck was junk.
