One tip that may help you is to have the slide out, put your back next to the TT right next to the slide and stick your arm out to see how much space you need for clearance (e.g. the pedestal at your first CG). That way if I have a nice concrete pad, I'll try to position my TT so I come off the TT's steps onto concrete rather than a surface that will track more dirt into the unit.

You are very observant! My wife commented (and I agreed) that parking in such a way that the landing steps stepped us out onto the sandy gravel rather than the nice, neat, stable concrete was a rookie mistake that we want to avoid in the future. She was sweeping that trailer 4 times a day. ;-)
I like the "extend your arm" suggestion as a slide guide. I will certainly use it!
