On Saturday my sister will take ownership of a new TT. I would like to compile items she should make sure the RV dealer covers during her walk through. Suggestions?
Thank you. West Beachhouse
Plenty of info on this in the FAQ section, but in general, I'd be very picky about fit and finish. Get those conversations over with early. Also, make sure that anything that turns on/off actually does turn on/off. - greginspExplorerI have had good, bad and rushed pre-delivery inspections. Some of the non-typical items that were missed:
Verify tire pressure, all of them.
Verify there is a good battery.
Sink covers
TV antenna operation
Check refrigerator works on both LP and Electric.
Floors cleaned especially hard surface floors.
Operation of all remotes for electronics and for other operations such as slides, jacks, exterior lights etc.
All thermostat functions.
Switches, all of them.
All lights, the new halogen bulbs are pricey.
One big item that is often not done is to have the water system pressured up before getting there with the water heater on and up to temperature. Run all faucets and make sure there are no leaks and all drains operate freely. Look under the trailer carefully.
Look at all cabinet doors and drawers for damage or poor workmanship.
These are just items that have bitten me in the past. There are many more systems and functions to go over besides these.
Even the best of dealerships want to rush you, and keep telling you about the warranty. What they don't tell you is how inconvenient it is to bring it back for things that should have been covered in the PDI. - GoldstalkerExplorerEverything!!!!! Run the slides in and out as much as you can.
- dadmomhExplorerDouble and triple check that there really is water in the WH. On the PDI on our '07 HTT, that was missed by the dealer and we were newbies and didn't think about it. The dealer did send us a replacement heating element right away, but just one surprise you don't need.
Ask that there is propane available to check those items. She may want to check the price for the dealer to fill the tanks vs having them done elsewhere. The dealer was lots more $$ than our local U-Haul. But surely they have a tank available for PDI.
On the PDI for our new TT we did have lists, but got so out of order that it was hard to keep up. The dealer started on the outside features and we were thinking differently. Suggest the list be done in categories. - Highway_4x4ExplorerHave it in your mind that you might not be taking it home that day. There is no way i would take a TT home that needs work. On Sun I was looking at some new Arctic Fox units, the salesman could not figure out how to get the pantry rack to slide out, after telling me he had been in the business for 20+years. Sharp as a marble.
- WoodGlueExplorerPrint this checklist off and add whatever else you're concerned about:
Pre-Delivery Checklist
It's 11 pages and worth every page!
WoodGlue - joelcExplorer IIIThere are lists that you can get. Bus basically check EVERYTHING. Lights, slides, water lines, roof, draws, missing screws, window operation, locks, etc. In other-words everything you can possibly think of.
- I_am_still_waynExplorerThe absolute biggest item is just before the delivery she has the most power and control. All of this is to be done BEFORE the closing and money has changed hands. She should insist that the PDI and walk through are done to her satisfaction and everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is working and all adjustments are correctly done. Again, do this before the closing and money has changed hands. Don't accept, take it and use it and bring it back with a punch list.
- Opie431ExplorerBe sure that you can pull out and roll up the awning.
- quickrod66ExplorerBe sure she know how to operate things, take a note pad, recorder or even video the instructions. if it has a stove how to turn the burners on, winterizing, turn on hot water,if a slide, how to retrieve if no elec & its extended.if it has tv,cd player all remotes are there.recomendations for caring of roof for the type it has. proper tire pressure for its tires, all keys are present and which ones are for which locks.things like these are sometime forgotten because we concentrate on the bigger issues but can be frustrating after we get the new TT home.
