Torklift Disappoints Me

I am supposed to be picking up my new Northern Lite 10.2 camper from my dealer either today or tomorrow. So, in advance of getting it, my first truck camper, I ordered a set of Torklift Talon tie downs and a set of Torklift Fastguns.

I got the Talons installed on my truck last week, spent several days preparing other items on my truck, and waited until yesterday to assemble the Fastguns. The first one went together without any problems but when I attempted to tighten the last nut on the threaded rod (which is supposed to be a 1/2" nylon lock nut) I discovered that an incorrect 1/2" nut, not a lock nut, had been included in the hardware pack instead. When I opened the other box, containing the other 2 Fastguns, it also had 2 incorrect nuts.

I called Torklift's customer service - having heard how great their customer service and support is - and they offered to send me 3 of the correct nylon lock nuts by regular mail, which would obviously not get to me in time to pick up my new Northern Lite. (The customer service guy explained that the nylon lock nut is not critical to the Fastgun functioning - it. simply holds the threaded hooked end rod in place in the event the other 1/2" nut comes off the rod).

So, I chose to drive into town to the closest hardware store to buy the correct nylon lock nuts, which is a 40 mile round trip drive from where I'm located, in Paradise Valley, south of Livingston, MT.

The 3 nuts cost me $0.99 to buy, which Torklift offered to reimburse me if I would send them the invoice, but more importantly it took me nearly 2 hours to drive there and back, plus the 40 miles on my truck.

You would think that when a customer spends way over $1,000 for a company's products that something a bit more than $0.99 could be offered to correct their error.

Contrary to what some of you other guys might feel, for the moment my impression of Torklift is that that's just about what they are worth in my view - $0.99.

  • They even offered to reimburse you the cost of the nuts which is more than most companies will do. You didn't need to run into town today as I'm sure there is a hardware store near the dealership that carried the nuts so you could have done it then.

Only re-enforces my belief Torklift is one of the best RV companies to deal with.

That's not great quality control in the hardware packaging, but seriously you could have just used the standard nuts to get you started on the trip and then on your first stop pulled in to a hardware store and picked up $3 worth of nylon lock nuts if it bothered you that much. That's a tad bit of overreaction, it takes maybe a minute to swap out the nuts on each one.

I'm not sure what the other nuts are, but they weren't the standard 1/2" nut. The threaded rod would only go part way into the nut, not the entire way through. I explained that to Torklift's customer service guy.
  • I'm not understanding why you are slamming Torklift. They said they'd send you the parts. Mistakes happen in every business.

Sorry that you live out away from a hardware store part of the year. It also seems like you should take their word when they say it isn't critical and replace the nuts once the ones from Torklift arrive.
