Thanks for the responses. I am really surprised. I was sure from all the google and forum searches that the response would be to get the Talons. Now these responses are convincing me to go with steel.
Torklift says the Talons are made from "military grade aluminum alloy" which is a stronger type of aluminum. Possibly that helps the metal fatigue question???
Actually I was not aware of this. This adds to the argument to not spend extra for aluminum. Maybe if I was close on weight I would go aluminum, but as someone said my setup has plenty of truck capacity so 25# makes no difference (I went with the advice "better too much truck than not enough truck").
I do live in an area with salt in the winter. I talked to Torklift tech support about several topics (before I posted this question to the forum) and he said if I get steel just to wash them once in a while.
I also read, I believe it was actually on the Happijack website, they said for their tiedowns it is a good idea to put liquid car wax on them. Which I believe you are supposed to wax your camper once in a while also if I recall past reading.

One thing to keep in mind , aluminum is not corrosion proof , especially where roads are treated with salt or brine n winter .
