I don't do metallurgy as a job, but that's not required to understand mechanics of materials. An oversimplification perhaps, but work hardening and shearing isn't about the composition it's more about how grains in materials align when they are bent over and over.
Furthermore, the first thing that has to happen is the bend. Since I have Talons and have seen them up close, I don't think they are designed to bend.
