Tornado Black Tank Review

Bought a Tornado brand black tank flusher and installed it today. Had tank very clean before install using wand down toilet. Hooked Tornado up to garden hose before installing it. Expected it to really spin fast. It doesn't. It turns very slowly. Seems like it will help but I expected it to really spin fast. Maybe when it's in the tank it will spin faster since it will have the walls of the tank to push against. I think it will be easier than the wand and for that reason I may do a better job flushing the tank but the wand spins faster and has more pressure. Also I'm adding a shut off valve to the end of the hose. OH! and the hose will hold water in it so now I have one more thing to winterize. I'd install it again on my next camper but I wouldn't run to the store for it.

Quickie Flush does not have any moving parts. :)

That's the one I installed, sorry, was not clear.
  • Two Tornados leaked and broke on me. But they did spin fast when working. Now have the Quickie Flush with custom water spray pattern.

Next will be a full custom sprayer. Have not yet found a good flange to bring the water in through the tank wall.
  • I also have the Tornado. Before installing I drilled some of the spray holes larger.
  • My bathroom sink is connected to the high side of my black tank. I just dump a couple of 3 gallon buckets of water down the sink after pulling the dump valve and call it good.
  • We had a Tornado on our HTT and it did a dandy job. Believe it was the 2nd or 3rd year we had it, on the very last trip of the season the hose connection broke. DH called them to ask about a replacement part and they sent a whole new Tornado at no charge. Talk about service! The layout of our HTT made using the wand a PITA...no access other than dragging a hose the full length of the trailer or coming up with a hose connection at the sink. We liked our Tornado.
  • I made my own wand out of a scrap piece of 3' long PVC pipe with a 90 degree fitting to accept a hose at he top and another 90 with a plug on the end at the bottom. I drill one 3/16" hole in the middle of the plug and no matter how little water pressure I have, the jet out that hole is powerful. I was able to get my black tank gauge working perfectly after I hit it with the wand.

I have a Sani-tee (or what ever its called) flusher built in but it doesn't do as good a job.
  • I installed the quickie flush and it does work to a degree, but nothing trumps a quality tank wand for cleaning the interior of the black tank. There are videos online that show the various devices available for cleaning out black tanks and results are surprising. Our current rig is 7 years old and sensors still work as they did when purchased new after a tank wand cleaning, which I tend to do about every fourth dumping usually while stored at our home.

That's why I went with old Tornado Flush with no spinning moving parts. I've read posts about the Tornado turning into a real tornado and flying apart.
  • I had one on my old trailer and it broke of on the outside after one season. I went back to using the wand because I can make sure it sprays all sides of the tank and therefore my sensors all get clean and always work
